Financial Sector ETFs [view article]
Turns out that the ultrashort Financials ETF was clearly the way to go. Question: is it still a buy, or have financials bottomed out now? And is it worth getting more granular, for example by shorting the broker-dealers ETF or the regional banks ETF? ReplyEditors

Is this a buy or a sell? ReplyIs it Time to Jump Back into the Financial Waters? [view article]
Yes it is time to jump out of the frying pan into the fire! A truly safe bet...Why not check it out at the Federal Reserve and take a nice look at the h3 release that stores the combined reserves of the US commercial banks?
Look at the column 'non borrowed (3)', there are the non borrowed (read real reserves) parked:
www.federalreserve.gov.../
Does it not say combined reserves are -8755 millions? Thus in the red and about one billion a day declining?
Yes, it is time to get back into the financials...
Andrew Corn, I think you are a weirdo. Reply

There's a lot of noise about the financials having bottomed out. Wouldn't you suspect another test of the lows before that happens? If lows were tested again many investors would see positions decline in excess of 7 - 10% prior to any sort of significant recovery. You also have to factor in the opportunity cost of not profiting from the rally (you'll be riding back to zero from negative). There's also the issue of the bond insurers potentially losing their credit ratings which could cause another round of write downs at major financial institutions.I agree that the exchanges / brokers sound like a solid idea (NYX, CME, NMX, etc.)
Solid article overall. Reply

Your thesis is without any convincing merit or argument. Compare exb with vwo, for instance, and there is no real advantage. In troubled times like these, if you choose to pick gld; add that to the comparison, and you have no space to stand. Here is a comparison from yahoo charts: tinyurl.com/26mmz5Reply

Sounds like someone is unhappy with their life. ReplyCan the Average Investor Profit from the Very Rich? [view article]
This is history. It has always been this way, and probably always will. ReplyCan the Average Investor Profit from the Very Rich? [view article]
If this were a fair system, we could just say that some people are more successful than others. The problem is that it is anything but an even playing field. We have developed an aristocracy in this country that is self-perpetuating.It is easy to be a winner when you get to make the rules. Reply

Yes, there's a fall out. As companies merge, competition diminishes. Look at cell phone plans. There's been so much consolidation that cell phone plans have not moved an inch in years. I think it will happen here too. Once the mergers are done, the price will move very little. Replyc1

looks fine to me, I did not read it elsewhere. It is ok to see most articles in one place rather to jump on 20 places just to read about new stuff. If you already read it you could see that in the title and not click it,. ReplyNew Global Exchange, Global Vaccine ETFs From Claymore [view article]
What is wrong with this guy? Why does he just regurgitate news stories he picks up around the web? It's a waste of my time to even click on his articles, since I've already read it myself. Is there anyway of blocking him from my RSS? What a dork. Reply
